Casa Runner Supports DIGICOM Film Festival

April 4, 2014 – PALM SPRINGS, CA

Danny Munoz, general manager of Casa Runner VIP Home Services has announced continuing support for one of the Coachella Valley’s most important programs.

“We proudly support a number of deserving organizations in our Desert communities,” Munoz said.  “This year is the fourth year that Casa Runner will be a community partner with a grant to the award-winning DIGICOM Film Festival, the Coachella Valley’s student-focused digital movie-making program that teaches children how to express themselves through the magic and artistry of film.”

Munoz added that the groundbreaking program created by David Vogel, Dr. Lee Grafton and Larry Fulton has “truly inspired hundreds of students to bring their passions to life on film.  We think what David, Lee, Larry and those outstanding teachers have accomplished is a major gift to our community.  It’s an honor to support DIGICOM.”

Students attend classroom instruction from Dr. Grafton, a former college professor and trained digital media specialist, and David Vogel, the former president of Disney Studios.   Larry Fulton, formerly a set designer for motion pictures, provides all of the creative media support and many hours of “behind the scenes” assistance.

“We think what David, Lee, Larry and those outstanding teachers have accomplished for the students is a a major gift to our community.  It’s an honor to support DIGICOM.”

As the program has grown it has garnered more financial support and academic notice; in 2012 DIGICOM was awarded the prestigious Golden Bell Award from the California Department of Education while this year NBC Universal comes aboard as the festival’s newest major sponsor.  Numerous Palm Springs businesses and civic leaders continue to provide major financial and community support for DIGICOM.

In “Draw My Life” a high school student finds her passion while overcoming personal tragedy. This film was the winner of the 2013 Lorri McCune Scholarship for Excellence in Filmmaking.

The 2014 Festival is one night only, Tuesday, May 6, at the Palm Springs High School, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. The program is free and open to the entire community.
